Abode Iota Alarm Review

security system cameras

Abode is proud to introduce the new Abode alarm, which comes in a number of different smart home security kits or devices. It's a lot like the company's other products, except it supports Apple HomeKit and is subscription-free.

The iota central hub is the brains of the system. It has Wi-Fi, abodeRF, an RF radio that connects devices made by other manufacturers and a Micro SD Card slot (available for free) for local video recording storage. It features both Z-Wave, and ZigBee support so that you can connect whatever device you like without being limited to a single brand.

Iota Security Camera

The iota's camera is impressive, featuring a 1080p video with dedicated motion detection. The camera also has an emergency battery built in, so it will keep recording even if the power goes out or the internet is lost.

It's also compatible both with Apple HomeKit (and Alexa), so you are able to use voice control for arming and disarming your system. You can create automations to trigger certain actions based on events that occur in the camera feed. For example, recording when a front door opens or flashing light whenever an alarm is activated.

Away Mode

The iota is also a big improvement over the previous version. It allows you to leave your home or business for 60 seconds without having to disable the system. It helps reduce the false alarms that you may get in a crowded neighborhood.

Fast Response Times

The Mini Door/Window Sensor was able to respond very quickly when we triggered events such as arming or disarming our system, and opening the windows. Notifications on both the iOS Home and Abode apps arrived in seconds. A countdown timer was also displayed on the keyfob.

CUE Automations

Abode iota's hub features a feature called "Cue" that lets you automate devices, similar to IFTTT. It's in beta, but it's a nice way to tie different actions together with some simple rules.

You can set up automations to schedule things like how often the iota gets armed and disarmed. You can set up routines to activate the lights whenever the alarm is triggered or the system disarms.

Iota - All In One

It has a great all-in one home security system, including fast response times and excellent HomeKit Integration, as well as plenty of growth room. It's not quite as versatile or feature-packed as Ring or Nest Secure, but it is easy to install. It's a great smart home alarm that we highly recommend.

How To

How to test your home security system

How to test a Home Security System

The first step is to install your alarm monitoring software on your computer. The manufacturer recommends that you download the most recent version. Next, set up your phone number to allow monitoring centers to route calls directly to your number. If you don’t know how to do that, you can ask your local service provider. Now you can start testing once everything is in place.

There are two ways to test your device. The first is to use a dummy. It is a fake device that appears to be the real thing. It has the same features as the real one, but it doesn't actually work. It sounds exactly like the real thing if it were working properly when it is turned on. However, there are some drawbacks to using a dummy device. First, it won’t give you any insight into the functionality of your system. Second, it might look suspicious to people who see it sitting around. Third, it might be stolen and cause trouble.

Another method is to manually test your system. You will need to go through your entire system and verify that everything is working properly. You would check, for example, whether the motion sensors are working, the cameras are recording properly, and if the door locks work. All of these should be tested at least once per week. Once everything has been thoroughly tested, you can feel confident your system is functioning well.
